Bathroom Remodeling in NYC

Marble showers, custom vanities, heated floors — and the waterproofing, plumbing, and permits behind them, done properly the first time.

The most unforgiving room in the house

Bathrooms are small, but nothing in a renovation punishes shortcuts the way a bathroom does. Skipped waterproofing shows up as a stain on your downstairs neighbor's ceiling. Sloppy tile work shows up every single morning. We build bathrooms the slow-and-right way: proper substrate, full waterproofing membranes, correctly sloped pans, and tile set by craftsmen — because redoing a bathroom twice costs far more than doing it once.

Since 2008 we've remodeled bathrooms across the five boroughs — brownstone primary baths, compact co-op bathrooms, and everything between.

What's included

What does a bathroom remodel cost in NYC?

In today's market, a full rip-and-replace of a standard NYC bathroom commonly runs $25,000–$45,000, while larger bathrooms with stone, custom glass, heated floors, or plumbing relocation frequently reach $50,000–$90,000+. Wet-area work is where cheap bids hide their shortcuts — our estimates itemize waterproofing, substrate, and plumbing separately so you can compare honestly.

Co-ops, condos, and brownstones

We handle building alteration agreements, insurance certificates, and wet-over-dry considerations in co-ops and condos, and we're specialists in brownstone bathrooms — including adding bathrooms where none existed, as part of a brownstone renovation or full gut renovation. Remodeling a kitchen too? See our kitchen remodeling service — combining wet rooms in one project shares plumbing work and permits, and saves real money.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

A full remodel of one bathroom typically takes 3 to 5 weeks of construction after demolition starts, assuming materials are on site. Plumbing relocation, custom glass (which is templated after tile is done), and co-op approvals can extend the timeline.

Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom in NYC?

If plumbing fixtures are moved or replaced with new rough-ins, or electrical circuits are added, DOB permits and licensed filings are required — and in co-ops/condos, an alteration agreement almost always is. We handle all of it.

What waterproofing do you use?

Modern membrane systems — liquid-applied or sheet membranes on walls and floors of wet areas, with sloped, flood-tested pans. We never rely on tile and grout alone to keep water out, because they don't.

Can you make a small NYC bathroom feel bigger?

Yes — curbless showers, wall-hung vanities and toilets, large-format tile, pocket doors, niches instead of shelves, and lighting layered at eye level. Small-bathroom planning is a big part of our co-op and brownstone work.

What's the biggest mistake to avoid in a bathroom remodel?

Hiring on price alone for wet-area work. The expensive failures — leaks into the apartment below, tile cracking, mold — all come from invisible shortcuts in substrate, waterproofing, and slope. Insist on an itemized estimate that names the waterproofing system, whoever you hire.
